Typical Manual Driver Installation Procedure under Windows XP/2000:
- Some driver files downloaded from manufacturers' web can do automatic
installation upon double click; Yet some others cannot, but requires a manual
installation. They may only expand related driver files to a certain folder,
say C:\DVD, upon double-click.
- For manual installation, go to CONTROL PANEL --> SYSTEMS --> HARDWARE --> DEVICE MANAGER, double click on your interested device,
then go to DRIVER --> UPDATE DRIVER.
- Follow screen, but don't choose "Automatic install",
instead, choose "Install from a list or specific location",
uncheck "Search removable media" and check
"Include this location in search",
then choose the driver files' folder, say "C:\DVD", (sometimes
certain sub-folder has to be selected instead). Follow screen.
- For Targus external DVD drive, if you want to install Windows
from it, assuming you have a floppy drive to use, you need first
use a Windows 98/ME boot floppy disk to fdisk and
format your hard drive. Then run "sys c:" to
transfer DOS from floppy to your hard drive. Then load the external
DVD's DOS driver to dos, reboot, you should be able to read your DVD drive. Run
certain files to start installing Windows, depending on which Windows,
it could be: "D:\Win98\setup.exe", "D:\Win9x\setup.exe",
"D:\WinNT\winnt.exe", "D:\WinNT\winnt32.exe" etc.
